Do people ever ask you this? I hear it all the time, mostly at networking events or in casual conversation with business owners.

The question really boils down to being “how do you make money?” Which is kind of a weird thing to ask a stranger…

Nevertheless, it’s a common curiosity and I like when people are direct.

My answer: Referrals.

As much as I would like for money to fall from the sky, and for clients to show up on my virtual doorstep, the reality for most small business owners is that the fastest, most consistent, most desirable sources of new business come from real human connections.
