When the clock chimes midnight, signaling the official start of 2014, I may be dancing, cheering and making out with the guy next to me – but it will not be among a crowd of drunken partygoers.
This year I will be spending the evening in, going through what I am currently calling ‘the ritual’ (though it sounds really witch-crafty to me, so I might try to come up with something better. Not that I have anything against witches, but that’s not really what I’m after). This is something that I’ve been working on for a few days, mapping out exactly what I hope to get out of it.
‘The ritual’ is basically a few hours of peace and quiet with my husband, reflecting on the best moments of this past year; discussing what we’re grateful for, what we learned, and what we are leaving behind as we head into the New Year. Then, we will explore what it is that we really want in the coming year, and what we’re willing to do (or not do) to make it happen.
There’s no smudge sticks or chanting, but I think we might burn some shit for fun. And, yes, we’ll probably be drinking…
But as I was planning this out, making my own worksheets (cuz I’m a nerd like that) and a checklist for my day-of preparation, I thought
“Why not make this something I can share?”
Because if I want to experience something different this NYE, there must be someone else who wants that too. And as I was searching for ideas I came across zilcho in the way of guidance.
Here it is, the worksheets and checklist that I will be using to ring in the best year of my life.
Note: this is a personal project, but I’m sharing it because I think it might be useful to you too. I think it would also be fun to do as a small group of friends and family too. If you like it, share it 🙂
Happy New Year!
